US grants $11.35 million to support new routes at smaller airports
The US Department of Transportation is providing $11.35 million under the Small Community Air Service Development Program to help smaller airports gain or regain air service, with local communities contributing funds.
The US Department of Transportation is awarding $11.35 million (about 9.7 million euros) through its Small Community Air Service Development Program. The money supports new or restored air links at smaller airports. Local communities must contribute funding of their own.
The largest single grant goes to Tallahassee, Florida, which receives $1.5 million (roughly 1.3 million euros). It is meant to help United Airlines restart service to Houston, a route dropped in 2021.
Other grants are earmarked for planned routes including Jackson to Chicago, Cedar Rapids to Newark, and Traverse City to Los Angeles or San Francisco. Funding will also go toward marketing an existing link between West Lafayette and Chicago.
