US military satellite network to link stealth aircraft to commercial internet

The Space Development Agency has cleared an L3Harris programme to build 18 infrared tracking satellites intended to connect American stealth aircraft to commercial satellite internet.

The Space Development Agency said on September 24 that Tracking Layer Tranche 3, an L3Harris satellite programme, will go ahead. The network is intended to link next-generation American military systems to commercial satellite internet.

Eighteen infrared tracking satellites are being built for the agency. They are expected to support the F-35 Lightning II, the B-21 Raider and the future F-47.

The programme is a step in the development of US combat cloud technology.
