WestJet begins retiring its Boeing 737-700 fleet
WestJet has started phasing out its Boeing 737-700 aircraft, with FTAI Aviation acquiring 27 of the jets. Most will stay with the Canadian carrier under a sale-and-leaseback deal.
WestJet has started retiring its Boeing 737-700 fleet. The Canadian carrier calls this the official start of the type's phase-out.
FTAI Aviation is taking 27 of the aircraft, according to the US company, which leases aircraft and engines and trades in engine components. Under a sale-and-leaseback arrangement, 17 will keep flying for WestJet for now. The other ten go to FTAI's aircraft and engine components business, to supply CFM56-7B engines and modules for the spare parts pool.
FTAI leases aircraft and engines and refurbishes and markets engine components. It announced the transaction; WestJet described it as the formal launch of the 737-700 retirement.
