Zuri selects EdgePerformance to supply hybrid powertrain engine for TD2.0
Czech VTOL developer Zuri has chosen Norway's EdgePerformance to provide the thermal engine at the heart of the hybrid-electric powertrain for its TD2.0 technology demonstrator.

Czech Republic-based VTOL developer Zuri has selected Norwegian company EdgePerformance to supply the thermal engine that will sit at the centre of the hybrid-electric powertrain for its Technology Demonstrator 2.0 vehicle.
EdgePerformance takes a standard Rotax 912 ULS piston engine and rebuilds it, fitting a new camshaft, pistons and cylinders along with a direct-drive power take-off shaft. The changes prepare the unit to drive a generator that supplies power to the TD2.0's eight electric motors, and also lift output from 100shp to 125shp. The engine weighs 57kg.
Zuri has taken delivery of the engine and run it at idle at its Prague base. According to the company, those runs confirmed initial performance, that the oil and water cooling it designed holds, and that sensors feeding the controller read correctly. Power and thermal testing at a dedicated facility is due to follow shortly.
The engine runs on E85 fuel, a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, and is expected to produce 20-30% less heat than it would on standard gasoline.
Once thermal data is confirmed, Zuri will adjust the cooling system and fuselage to provide the needed airflow, and complete integration of the generator with its control units.
Zuri intends the TD2.0 to fly in the second quarter of 2027. The tiltrotor demonstrator underpins its first commercial product, a long-range uncrewed cargo VTOL aircraft with a design payload of 115kg and a design range of 367nm (680km). The company has not said whether EdgePerformance will also supply engines for the production aircraft.
