What happened

The pilot executed a landing on Runway 4, which consisted of a sod surface. The touchdown occurred approximately 60 feet prior to the point where the runway met the hard surface parallel taxiway associated with Runway 13/31. A lip of approximately two inches existed between the edge of the sod runway and the taxiway pavement.

Upon contact with the hard surface of the parallel taxiway, the nose wheel broke off. The impact with the raised edge contributed to the structural failure of the landing gear assembly.
