Incident Summary
A student pilot was on a private pilot check flight with a designated flight examiner. While demonstrating balked landings, the go-around procedure was performed improperly. As a result, the examiner asked the student to repeat the procedure on the next approach, which was a short field landing approach.
Sequence of Events
During the approach, the aircraft drifted to the right when the go-around was initiated. The nose gear then contacted a 2-foot burr along the edge of the runway. According to the flight examiner, the student had raised the flaps fully up upon initiating the go-around. The examiner then took control of the aircraft and attempted to get it back on the runway and stop, as it had slowed down too much to clear a 30-foot power line at the end of the runway. However, during touchdown, the aircraft nosed over.
Damage
During the accident sequence, the nose wheel was driven completely aft.
