Incident Overview
While in cruise flight at 2,500 feet above ground level (AGL), the carburetor ice warning light illuminated. The pilot applied carburetor heat, and the light extinguished. Subsequently, the pilot returned the carburetor heat to the off position. The sequence repeated, and when the warning light illuminated for the third time, the engine stopped.
Forced Landing and Damage
During the forced landing, the pilot stalled the aircraft. The resulting hard landing caused damage to the engine firewall area.
