What happened
The pilot operated the aircraft from a short, level terrain feature situated near a drilling rig site. The location was characterized by an elevation of approximately 3,300 feet. Prior to the flight, the pilot had assessed the available takeoff area, noting it measured only 960 feet in length.
During the departure phase, the aircraft lifted off at an indicated airspeed of about 58 knots. Shortly after becoming airborne, the plane encountered turbulent airflow conditions. This turbulence caused the right wing to drop significantly. As the wing descended, it struck a steep post located in the immediate vicinity of the takeoff path.
Following the impact with the post, the aircraft was crash landed immediately. The sequence of events suggests that the combination of the short takeoff distance and subsequent turbulence led to the loss of control and the resulting collision.
