Incident Overview
A Canadian Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) was conducting a training flight with a Canadian student pilot operating the rudder pedals while the CFI handled the remaining aircraft controls. A second student pilot was also on board, observing from a rear seat. The aircraft began to deviate to the left after approximately 800 feet of takeoff roll, due to the student inadvertently applying left rudder input.
Sequence of Events
The CFI reported that he was unable to apply right rudder in sufficient time to avoid striking trees located about 200 feet left of the runway. After departing the runway, the aircraft encountered rough terrain, which caused the airplane to bounce while the CFI was attempting to steer back to the right. The CFI then attempted to become airborne but could not obtain sufficient airspeed. He subsequently pulled the power to idle before the aircraft contacted the trees.
Pilot and Aircraft Information
The aircraft involved was a training airplane, but its type, registration, and other identifying details were not specified in the report. The flight was a dual instructional session with one CFI and two student pilots, all Canadian.
