Incident Overview
An aircraft sustained damage following a hard landing that occurred during unfavorable wind conditions. The pilot had just completed a cross-country flight during which turbulence was encountered.
Weather and Approach
Upon contacting UNICOM to arrange landing, the pilot was advised of winds from the west at 15 to 25 knots, with turbulence reported on final approach. The landing was conducted on runway 25.
Sequence of Events
According to the pilot, during the flare a gust of wind lifted the aircraft. As a result, the tail skid made contact with the ground. Subsequently, the nose of the aircraft came down hard. The pilot stated that the aircraft bounced once before settling on the runway.
Damage
The aircraft was damaged as a consequence of the hard landing.
