The Incident
A pilot-in-command (PIC) was undergoing an annual flight check with a certified flight instructor (CFI) aboard. The flying club required an annual club proficiency check flight. During the flight, the check pilot requested that the PIC land at Colts Neck Airport. The check pilot stated he was confident the landing conditions on the sod runway would be good, as he had recently landed there in another aircraft.
Sequence of Events
During the landing roll, the aircraft went over a hump in the runway and became airborne momentarily. According to reports, back pressure was applied to the elevator controls. When the nose came back down, another hump was encountered. The nose gear fork then failed, and the strut dug into the ground, causing the aircraft to nose over.
Damage
The nose gear fork failed, and the strut impacted the ground. The aircraft nosed over as a result.
