Overview
During a landing on runway 32, an aircraft overran the departure end of the 2,100-foot runway and came to rest in heavy underbrush. The wind was from 320 degrees at 10 knots.
Sequence of Events
The pilot reported that he made one go-around because he was high on the initial approach. The second approach was flown at 65 mph, and touchdown was accomplished approximately 500 feet from the threshold. Brakes were applied, but the pilot stated braking was minimal. The aircraft veered left, was corrected back, but continued off the end of the runway into heavy underbrush.
Inspection Findings
An inspection of the braking system disclosed that the brakes functioned satisfactorily with no evidence of leaks. The lining on both the left and right pressure plate assemblies were in satisfactory condition. However, the lining on the right back plate was missing. The lining on the left back plate assembly was excessively worn and pieces were missing.
