Incident Overview
The accident occurred during takeoff from an airport situated at an elevation of 6,411 feet mean sea level (MSL). The density altitude at the time was approximately 9,150 feet. After departure, the aircraft climbed to about 7,300 feet MSL before the engine began to lose power. The pilot was unable to return to the airport and initiated an emergency landing.

Engine Examination
The engine was removed from the aircraft and transported to a facility for testing. Due to damage sustained in the impact, the magnetos were replaced prior to running the engine. The engine was then operated at 1,000, 1,800, and 2,200 revolutions per minute (RPM). During these tests, no preimpact discrepancies were identified. The engine appeared to function normally.
