Incident Overview
A solo student pilot experienced a loss of directional control during landing, resulting in the aircraft nosing over off the left side of the runway. The event occurred after the student had completed a successful solo landing earlier.
Sequence of Events
Due to wind from the south at 5 to 10 knots and associated turbulence, a certified flight instructor (CFI) flew one traffic pattern with the student. The student then performed a landing without assistance, after which the CFI exited the aircraft. The student subsequently made a successful solo landing.
On the second approach, the student was too high and executed a go-around. On the third approach, the student again approached high and was unsteady in the wind. The aircraft bounced upon touchdown. The student applied the brakes throughout a series of bounces, which was followed by the aircraft nosing over off the left side of the runway.
Pilot Instructions
The student had been instructed to conduct full stop landings using 20 degrees of flaps and maintaining 60 knots of airspeed on final approach.
