Incident Details
A pilot reported that while en route from San Carlos, California, to Glendale, Arizona, he was flying under a cloud layer with a base of 2000 feet above mean sea level. As he entered a valley, the clouds began to close in around him. He executed a 180-degree turn, but by that time the clouds had also closed in behind him, trapping him.
Unable to continue visual flight, the pilot attempted a precautionary landing on a road within the Joshua Tree National Monument. During the landing rollout, the left wing of the aircraft contacted a Joshua tree, resulting in substantial damage to the aircraft.
No further details about the aircraft, registration, or occupants were provided in the report.
