Accident Overview
The aircraft was involved in an accident after the engine failed during flight, necessitating a forced landing. During the landing, the aircraft collided with trees.
Post-Accident Findings
Examination of the aircraft after the accident revealed that the clamp securing the turbocharger inlet tube to the engine exhaust was found off the threads of the bolt. The threads were not damaged, and the nut was missing.
Maintenance History
Records indicated that the engine had received a top overhaul seven hours before the accident. This overhaul was performed by the aircraft owner, and the clamp would have been removed during that process.
Pilot Report
The pilot reported after the accident that during the flight, while cruising at 4,500 feet, a thump was heard in the engine compartment, after which the engine quit. The subsequent forced landing resulted in a collision with trees.
