Preflight and Takeoff
Prior to departure, the pilot conducted a runup. During takeoff, one notch of flaps was used, and the aircraft broke ground after approximately 800 feet of runway.
Engine Failure
During the climbout at approximately 200 feet above ground level, the engine began skipping and then quit. The pilot was unable to restore power and subsequently performed a forced landing in a field.
Post-Accident Examination
Examination of the aircraft revealed that the fuel selector was set to the right tank. The right fuel tank was found to be empty, while the left fuel tank was approximately half full. The carburetor bowl was also found to be empty.
