Incident Overview
During the initial climb after takeoff from Runway 09L, the engine lost power at approximately 400 feet above ground level while the aircraft was in a left climbing turn. The pilot continued the left turn in an attempt to land on Runway 18L.
Forced Landing
Easterly winds caused the aircraft to overshoot the intended runway. The forced landing was executed on grass on the west side of the airport. During the rollout after touchdown, the aircraft collided with an airport boundary fence.
Engine Examination
Post-incident examination of the engine revealed a stuck #2 cylinder exhaust valve, accompanied by damage to the corresponding push rod and tappet.
Investigation
The investigation documented the sequence of events as described, including the power loss altitude, turn direction, attempted runway, wind direction, landing location, and fence collision. The engine findings were noted.
