Incident Overview
A pilot flying a local solo instructional flight experienced a loss of control during a go-around attempt, resulting in the aircraft crashing off the left side of the runway.
Sequence of Events
According to the pilot, while approaching the airport, the UNICOM advisory reported the winds as light and variable. On short final for Runway 7, a crosswind gust estimated at 25 knots began drifting the aircraft off the runway. The pilot then initiated a go-around by adding full power. However, the pilot stated that after applying full power, he "lifted the nose too high" and did not apply enough right rudder. Consequently, the aircraft veered off the left side of the runway and crashed.
The flight was a solo instructional flight, and the pilot was the sole occupant.
