What happened
The accident occurred during a training flight at a private grass airstrip. The aircraft was attempting to land when it bounced several times upon touchdown. In response to the unstable approach, the student pilot initiated a go-around maneuver. However, this decision was made before the pilot instructor was prepared to take control or assist with the procedure.
Following the initiation of the go-around, the aircraft cleared the powerlines located at the departure threshold while in a nose-high attitude. Due to the low airspeed maintained during this critical phase of flight, the aircraft settled back to the ground in a mushing or stalled condition. The impact resulted in damage to the aircraft, but there were no injuries reported among the occupants.
The investigation
An examination of the incident revealed that there were no mechanical difficulties reported with the aircraft prior to or during the event. The sequence of events was primarily driven by pilot technique and timing rather than equipment failure.
