Accident Sequence
During a touch-and-go landing practice, a Cessna 152 began to veer left after the application of takeoff power. The aircraft departed the runway surface and struck a dirt bank located approximately 50 feet from the runway edge. Subsequently, the airplane nosed over in a freshly plowed field adjacent to the runway.
Pilot Report
The student pilot indicated that the accident occurred while practicing touch-and-go landings. He reported that there were no mechanical failures or malfunctions prior to the accident.
Runway Safety Area Condition
Examination of the area where the aircraft departed the runway revealed a deeply worn dirt road running parallel to the runway within the limits of the runway safety area (RSA). According to Advisory Circular (AC) 150-5300-4B, the RSA should be graded and capable of accommodating the occasional passage of aircraft without causing major damage to the aircraft.
