Incident Sequence
According to the instructor pilot's statement, the aircraft was over the threshold when the crew observed another airplane passing overhead and descending in front of their aircraft. The instructor attempted to avoid a collision by turning to the right, but the left wing made contact with the rudder of the other aircraft. Following the contact, the instructor applied full power, executed a go-around, and subsequently landed without further incident.
A witness who was also in the traffic pattern reported seeing two Cessna 152 aircraft on short final approach. Just as the witness issued a radio warning, the aircraft that was positioned slightly to the right of the other 152 collided with it. After the collision, that aircraft (the one that initiated the turn) went around and landed safely.
Aftermath
The other Cessna 152, the one that was struck, bounced upon contact, veered off the left side of the runway, and struck a third Cessna 152 that was holding for takeoff. The aircraft then rolled approximately 200 feet, hit a dirt mound, nosed over, and came to rest inverted. No further information regarding occupants or injuries was provided in the source.
