Flight History
The accident pilot had been practicing touch-and-go landings for approximately one hour prior to the event. At that point, the pilot decided to stop briefly to wait out rain showers in the area. After the rain passed, the pilot added 10 gallons of aviation fuel to the aircraft and then taxied to the active runway. The pilot noted the wind sock and selected the appropriate runway for the takeoff, intending to return to the originating airport.
Departure and Stall
Shortly after liftoff, the aircraft climbed to an altitude of 30 to 40 feet. The pilot reported that a stall seemed to be developing and therefore leveled the aircraft. The flight felt good momentarily, but then the left wing dropped abruptly and the aircraft swerved to the left. The airspeed indicator showed 40 knots. The pilot looked up and observed that the aircraft was facing 90 degrees to the left of the direction of flight.
Impact
The aircraft subsequently impacted terrain in a ditch.
Post-Accident Examination
Examination of the aircraft revealed no malfunctions of the flight controls. Additionally, the engine showed no signs of malfunction.
