What happened
The pilot departed from an airport located approximately 27 miles west of his intended destination. Following takeoff, he received an in-flight weather briefing and proceeded north of a line of thunderstorms. As he approached the destination airport for landing, he observed thunderstorm activity to the south but continued with the approach and successfully landed.
While taxiing toward the tie-down area after landing, a gust of wind caused the aircraft to overturn. The wind was reported to be gusting to 45 knots at the time of the incident.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the overturning event. It was determined that the aircraft was subjected to strong wind gusts while on the ground. No mechanical failures or pilot errors in navigation were cited as primary factors for the accident.
Findings
Contributing factors included the weather conditions at the destination airport. Specifically, the wind gusting to 45 knots played a significant role in the overturning of the aircraft during taxi operations.
