Incident Overview
The accident occurred during a skydiving operation conducted by a private pilot. After completing a parachutist drop, the pilot initiated a spiral descent from altitude to land. The approach was extended to accommodate a departing aircraft. While on a long final approach, the engine failed, prompting an emergency landing in a soft, plowed farm field.
Emergency Landing and Aftermath
During the landing, the aircraft's nose wheel dug into the soft soil, causing the aircraft to turn over. The pilot was conducting the operation without reported injuries. The aircraft sustained damage from the overturn.
Investigation Findings
A post-accident examination revealed no mechanical irregularities or fuel system anomalies. Meteorological conditions at the time were assessed using icing probability charts, which indicated conditions favorable for carburetor icing.
