Incident Details
During an instrument landing system (ILS) localizer approach, the aircraft landed hard, resulting in substantial damage to the wing spar. The pilot stated that he had accumulated substantial ice on the aircraft and had utilized the deicing equipment shortly before landing.
Pilot Account
The pilot reported crossing the runway threshold at 100 knots and reducing power. The aircraft then pitched down suddenly. Power and back pressure were applied in an attempt to cushion the landing. The aircraft hit the runway hard, bounced, and then settled on the runway.
Aftermath
After the hard landing and bounce, the aircraft was taxied back to the ramp. The extent of damage was noted as substantial to the wing spar. No other damage or injuries were reported.
