Incident Overview
An aircraft traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma, experienced an engine failure approximately 30 miles northeast of its destination. The failure was attributed to fuel exhaustion. Prior to the failure, the flight encountered varying degrees of icing conditions during the en route portion, but conditions improved to visual flight rules as the aircraft neared Tulsa.
Sequence of Events
Initially, the pilot observed a partial loss of engine power and identified a precautionary landing site. However, a few minutes before touchdown, total power was lost, necessitating a forced landing in rough terrain. During the landing roll, the airplane struck trees, fences, and a ditch, causing the aircraft to roll over and come to rest inverted.
