What happened
The incident occurred during a takeoff attempt intended to be the student pilot's first solo flight. As the aircraft accelerated down the runway, the pilot initiated rotation by raising the nosewheel to achieve liftoff. Immediately following this input, the airplane began to drift toward the left side of the runway.
In an effort to correct the lateral deviation, the pilot applied right aileron control pressure. This input proved ineffective for maintaining directional control on the ground. The aircraft continued its trajectory off the paved surface and encountered soft sand. Upon striking the unconsolidated terrain with the nosewheel, the landing gear collapsed, causing the airplane to nose over.
The investigation
Post-accident examination revealed that the primary mechanical failure was not inherent to the airframe but resulted from the ground handling dynamics during the critical takeoff phase. The structural damage was consistent with a nose-over impact following an off-runway excursion into soft surface material.
