Incident Overview
A student pilot experienced a loss of engine power approximately two hours into a flight and subsequently performed a forced landing in a field. The pilot had been scheduled to take the private pilot test, but the test was rescheduled because the examiner determined that the pilot was about two hours short of the required solo flight time.
Flight Details
In order to familiarize himself with the area and acquire the necessary flight time, the pilot decided to fly. Before departure, the pilot visually checked the fuel gauges and saw that they indicated half full. During the flight, about two hours after departure, the engine began to lose power. The pilot attempted to restart the engine but was unsuccessful. Consequently, the pilot executed a forced landing in a field.
