A skydiver's premature main parachute deployment led to entanglement with the aircraft's elevator, causing loss of control and a crash.

Incident Overview

A skydiver preparing to jump from an aircraft experienced a premature deployment of his main parachute while the door was open. He proceeded to exit the aircraft, and his parachute became entangled in the elevator of the airplane.

The skydiver whose parachute was entangled with the tail cut away his main parachute and deployed his reserve parachute for landing.
