Incident Overview

A certificated private pilot receiving dual instruction was conducting night takeoff and landing training. The flight instructor directed the student to perform a touch-and-go landing and takeoff on runway 22. The student executed the landing successfully and began the takeoff roll.

Deer Strike

As the airplane rotated, the flight instructor observed a grayish object moving perpendicular to the runway near the right leading edge wing root. The object subsequently struck the airplane. It was later identified as a deer.

Post-Strike Actions

The flight continued the takeoff and returned to its home base. During the return flight, the flight instructor determined that the right main landing gear had separated from its attachment point. Despite this, the instructor was able to land the airplane at the home base without further incident.
