During a foggy approach, the pilot continued a high descent on final approach. The aircraft landed far down the runway, overran the paved surface, and struck shrubbery before stopping.

What happened

The flight was operating during conditions of reduced visibility due to fog while on the downwind leg of the traffic pattern. Despite the weather conditions, the pilot elected to continue the approach rather than divert or go around.

As the aircraft descended toward the runway, the runway environment did not become clearly visible until the aircraft reached an altitude of approximately 400 feet above ground level. At this point, the pilot recognized that the aircraft was positioned too high for a normal landing profile. However, instead of initiating a missed approach, the pilot continued the descent.

The aircraft touched down approximately three-quarters of the way down the runway. Due to the excessive speed and height at touchdown, the aircraft failed to stop within the available pavement. It overran the end of the runway and collided with nearby shrubbery before coming to a complete rest.
