During a right turn onto the runway, the left main landing gear of a recently returned-to-service airplane collapsed. The strut housing and attachment point were found broken.
Event Description
The pilot was executing a right turn onto the runway in preparation for departure when the left main landing gear collapsed. Subsequent inspection revealed that the top of the main gear strut housing and the upper side brace/down lock link assembly attachment point had broken off.
Previous Incident
The airplane had just been returned to service following a similar collapse of the right main landing gear, which had occurred six months earlier.
Maintenance Actions
After the previous accident, both main landing gears were overhauled. As part of that process, a 'serviceable upper strut housing' was installed in the left main landing gear.
