Incident Overview
During a before-takeoff engine check, the pilot observed a right magneto drop that was considered "unacceptable." To address this, the pilot increased engine power and leaned the mixture until an "acceptable" right magneto drop in RPM was achieved.
Takeoff and Abort
As the airplane accelerated during takeoff, engine RPM dropped to 2,000 RPM. The pilot aborted the takeoff. The airplane subsequently ran off the departure end of the runway into a gully and came to rest inverted.
Post-Incident Examination
An engine test run conducted after the incident revealed no anomalies. No additional details regarding the aircraft, occupants, or injuries were provided in the source material.
