What happened
The aircraft was conducting a landing operation on a private airstrip characterized by surrounding trees. As the pilot established the final approach, he reported that direct sunlight impaired his vision. This visual obstruction contributed to the aircraft drifting to the right of the intended flight path.
Consequently, the right wing struck a tree. The impact caused the pilot to lose airspeed, making it impossible to execute a proper flare for touchdown. Upon contact with the ground, the nose wheel and left main landing gear collapsed. The force of the accident also tore the engine from its mounts.
The investigation
Post-acc examination revealed significant structural damage. The primary mechanical failure involved the collapse of the nose wheel and left main landing gear. Additionally, the engine was separated from its mounting points due to the impact forces.
