Incident Sequence

The pilot reported that while approximately 4 miles from the airport at an altitude of 300 feet, the helicopter yawed and the engine out light and audio warnings activated. The auto reignition light also illuminated. The engine lost power, and the helicopter could not maintain altitude. The pilot initiated an autorotation, during which the helicopter descended through trees and collided with water. After impact, the helicopter rolled onto its right side and filled with water.
