Incident Overview
The pilot reported an ILS approach that was uneventful until within two feet of touchdown. At that point, thick fog and a complete whiteout caused a loss of all forward visibility and the entire runway environment. The aircraft touched down left of the runway centerline, and the left propeller impacted a snowbank located on the left side of the runway.
Runway Excursion
The aircraft veered off the left side of Runway 8R, which measures 7,000 by 150 feet. It skidded to a stop perpendicular to and facing the runway.
Weather Conditions
A weather observation taken nine minutes after the incident recorded the temperature and dew point both at 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Visibility was 3/16 statute mile in light drizzle and fog.
