Accident Description
During a takeoff from Runway 17, the airplane encountered a crosswind from 270 degrees at 20 knots, gusting to 30 knots. The pilot lost directional control of the airplane, causing it to drift left off the runway and subsequently nose over into the inverted position.
Pilot Statement
The pilot reported that the airplane momentarily left the ground two times prior to nosing over. On the second occasion that the airplane became airborne, the pilot believed a stall was imminent and pushed forward on the controls. The airplane then impacted the ground and nosed over.
Sequence of Events
The accident occurred during the takeoff roll. After losing directional control, the airplane departed the left side of the runway. It briefly became airborne twice before the final impact. The pilot's forward control input during the second airborne moment preceded the ground impact and inversion.
