What happened
The incident involved a solo student pilot conducting flight training maneuvers on a grass airstrip. The specific objective was to execute a series of practice soft-field touch-and-go landings. At the time of the event, the aircraft was aligned for a landing direction running from west to east. Meteorological conditions included a wind component from the northwest at 10 knots, with intermittent gusts reaching up to 20 knots.
During the rollout phase of one such landing, the aircraft encountered a significant wind gust. This sudden change in aerodynamic forces caused the airplane to drift laterally off the side of the grass runway. The aircraft then entered rough, uneven terrain adjacent to the airstrip.
