Air Taxi Aircraft Damaged After Ski Contacts Snow Berm During Takeoff Taxi (N20752)

What happened

The pilot was conducting pre-flight preparations for an on-demand air taxi flight. The aircraft, equipped with both wheels and skis, was being taxied toward the takeoff position. During this maneuver, the right ski made contact with a raised snow berm. This impact caused the aircraft to pivot sharply. As the plane turned, the left wing struck a nearby snow bank.

The pilot later explained that environmental conditions played a significant role in the incident. Flat lighting and low contrast between the snow berm and the surrounding terrain made it difficult to distinguish the obstacle from the ground.

The investigation

Examination of the aircraft confirmed damage to the left wing resulting from the contact with the snow bank. The right ski was found to have impacted the snow berm during the taxi phase.
