Introduction
A pilot experienced a partial loss of engine power while cruising at 1500 feet mean sea level. All attempts to restore power were unsuccessful, leading to a forced landing in a freshly plowed corn field. The landing roll concluded with the nosewheel collapsing and the aircraft nosing over.
Event Description
The pilot stated that during cruise flight at 1500 ft MSL, the engine lost partial power. Despite multiple attempts, she could not regain engine power. She executed a forced landing in a recently plowed corn field. During the landing roll, the nosewheel collapsed, causing the aircraft to nose over.
Postaccident Examination
Following the accident, an examination of the aircraft's fuel system revealed fuel present in the fuel lines leading to the carburetor. The engine and its accessories were inspected and showed no evidence of preimpact mechanical malfunction. However, a compression test was performed, yielding the following readings for cylinders 1 through 4: 54/80, 18/80, 62/80, and 66/80.
