Incident Summary
A pilot reported an engine power loss while on final approach for landing. Noticing the aircraft was low, the pilot added power, but the engine failed to respond. The airplane subsequently touched down short of the runway, resulting in a bounce that collapsed the landing gear. The aircraft then slid on its belly down the runway until coming to a stop.
Sequence of Events
As the occupants were exiting the aircraft, a fire ignited. The flames consumed the engine and airframe. The extent of the fire damage was severe, making it impossible to determine whether a mechanical failure or malfunction had occurred prior to the incident.
Investigation Findings
Due to the complete consumption of the engine and airframe by fire, investigators could not establish a definitive cause for the lack of engine response. No mechanical failure or malfunction could be confirmed or ruled out based on the available evidence.
