Accident Overview
A student pilot was conducting the final landing of his second supervised solo flight when the accident occurred. Upon touchdown, the airplane first veered to the right. When the pilot applied corrective inputs, the airplane then veered to the left and departed the left side of the runway.
Sequence of Events
After departing the runway, the airplane continued across the grass area, went over the top of an embankment, and eventually stopped when it struck trees and brush.
Investigation Findings
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that no evidence of a mechanical failure or malfunction was found with the airplane. The investigation did not identify any pre-existing issues with the aircraft's systems or structure.
