Landing Gear Malfunction Forces Gear-Up Landing (N2314F)

Incident

A pilot reported that after takeoff, she retracted the landing gear without issue and remained in the airport traffic pattern. When she moved the landing gear lever to the down position, the nose gear extended, but the main landing gear did not. She exited the traffic pattern and attempted to extend the main gear using emergency procedures and the manual emergency hand pump, but these efforts were unsuccessful. She subsequently performed a gear-up landing on a grass strip adjacent to runway 20.

Postaccident Examination

Examination of the aircraft after the landing included a functional test of the landing gear using an external hydraulic pressure source, which showed the gear operated satisfactorily. Further inspection revealed that the engine-driven hydraulic pump shaft had failed. Additionally, the emergency landing gear handle was not completely extended, which prevented it from operating through its full stroke.
