What happened
The incident involved a student pilot operating a light aircraft under instruction. Prior to the accident flight, the student had completed five successful takeoffs and landings with a certified instructor on board. Following this supervised training, the student executed two additional solo takeoffs and landings without issue.
During the third solo takeoff attempt, the pilot was conducting a soft field departure procedure. Shortly after initiating the takeoff roll, the student reported losing directional control of the airplane. The aircraft veered off the runway surface and struck a snowbank. The impact caused the nose gear to collapse, resulting in the airplane nosing over.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the loss of directional control during the soft field takeoff. Examination of the event sequence indicated that the pilot was unable to maintain the runway centerline while accelerating for takeoff. The contact with the snowbank was a direct result of this deviation from the intended flight path.

The primary factor in this accident was the loss of directional control by the student pilot during the takeoff phase. The aircraft sustained damage consistent with a nose-over impact after leaving the paved surface. No mechanical failures were reported as contributing factors.
