Incident Details
A student pilot reported that during a landing attempt, the aircraft bounced. Following the bounce, while still airborne, the aircraft turned to the left and subsequently touched down with the heading directed off the left side of the runway. The aircraft continued its trajectory beyond the runway surface, entering a grass area. It then came into contact with a four-foot-high raised berm located at a perpendicular taxiway. Upon impact with the berm, the nose landing gear collapsed, causing the aircraft to pitch forward onto its nose. As the aircraft settled back onto its main landing gear, the right wing made contact with the terrain.
Sequence of Events
The incident sequence began with a bounced landing. After the bounce, the aircraft veered left while airborne. It touched down left of the runway centerline and continued off the runway. The aircraft traveled through grass before striking the berm. The berm impact resulted in the collapse of the nose gear and a subsequent nose-over attitude. The right wing then struck the ground as the aircraft returned to a level attitude supported by the main landing gear.
