Flight Plan
The student pilot had planned a cross-country flight from Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Hobart, Oklahoma. He was on his second cross-country flight, which was expected to last 2 hours and 20 minutes.
En Route Events
While en route, the airplane was vectored around two airports with NOTAMed airspace. The pilot was subsequently cleared to resume his own navigation. On several occasions, the pilot contacted ATC controllers to obtain headings to the destination. While being vectored, the engine lost power approximately 6 miles from the destination, after the airplane had been airborne for about 4 hours and 45 minutes.
Forced Landing
During the forced landing that followed the power loss, the airplane nosed over in soft terrain. An inspection after the accident revealed no usable fuel in the airplane.
