Incident Overview
The pilot departed from Malvern, Arkansas, and encountered snow and instrument meteorological conditions after takeoff. Becoming lost, he decided to proceed toward Springdale Airport in Springdale, Arkansas, navigating with the Razorback VORTAC. During the diversion to Springdale, the pilot informed his passengers that the aircraft was about to run out of fuel.
Forced Landing
Approximately 2.5 miles north of Springdale Airport, the engine lost power. The pilot initiated a forced landing. During the landing roll, the aircraft went through a barbed wire fence, and the right wing struck a tree.
Fuel Examination
An FAA inspector examined the aircraft and found no evidence of usable fuel in the fuel tanks. The amount of fuel onboard prior to departure from Malvern was undetermined.
Reporting
Repeated attempts to obtain a completed Pilot/Operator Report (NTSB Form 6120.1/2) from the pilot were unsuccessful.
