Incident Details
A student pilot reported a normal traffic pattern and landing on runway 18 at the Evansville Skylane Airport in Evansville, Indiana. After touchdown, the pilot lightly applied the brakes once and noticed no response. A second application of the brakes also yielded no deceleration, and the pilot felt the airplane begin to slide.
Aware of a steep embankment at the departure end of runway 18, the pilot elected to steer the airplane to the right to avoid the drop-off. Despite the turn input, the airplane continued to slide. The right wing then struck the end of a hangar, causing the airplane to spin. It came to rest with the left wing impacting the hangar door.
Examination
Post-incident examination of the airplane revealed no mechanical anomalies. The brake system and other flight controls were within normal operating parameters, with no evidence of pre-existing failure or malfunction.
