Incident Overview
A student pilot was conducting a landing on runway 17. According to the pilot's account, he had received clearance to land on that runway. He trimmed the airplane for an approach speed of 60-62 knots and subsequently touched down.
Sequence of Events
Upon touchdown, the airplane began to experience a shimmy and vibration. The pilot stated that the airplane then veered to the left. Despite his attempts to maintain control, the airplane departed the runway surface. It continued across a taxiway, where it struck a taxiway light before entering a ditch. The airplane came to rest in an upright position.

The student pilot provided the information regarding the landing clearance, trim settings, and the handling of the airplane after touchdown. He noted that his control inputs were ineffective in correcting the deviation.
